Dioxin Levels Significantly Higher in Organic Milk

Dioxin Levels Significantly Higher in Organic Milk

By: Russell Eaton

• Dioxins are caused by incineration, traffic pollution, industrial waste emissions, fires, and many other chemical and industrial processes. Dioxins are known to be the most potent carcinogen ever tested.

Research clearly shows that dioxins cause many serious diseases such as a kidney disease, birth defects, premature death, and a whole range of cancers.

• Unfortunately, dioxins are just about everywhere in nature because they get carried by weather patterns, rain, ocean currents, and wind to all parts of the globe. Dioxins settle on pastures, and on plants and grains that form part of the food chain for animals and humans.

Dioxins do not come from pesticides or fertilizers - they come from the environment at large and even from the water supply. That is why dioxins are found in equal measure in organic and nonorganic food. But we can minimize the amount we get by avoiding certain foods high in dioxins.

• Our bodies can usually cope with a low level of dioxins. Some get flushed out instead of being absorbed into the body to cause illness. We can reduce the amount of dioxins we get by avoiding foods high in dioxins.

The question is: which food is highest in dioxins? Weight for weight, dairy milk has by far the highest amount of dioxins than any other food or drink. All mammals produce milk for feeding to their babies (including humans). The dioxins in the mother's body get concentrated in her breast milk. This occurs, because all nutrients (including dioxins) get concentrated in breast milk as a way of providing good rich nourishment to the new born.

• Consequently, just about all human breast milk has an undesirable concentration of dioxins. But a baby stops breastfeeding after a few months so the level of dioxins received by the baby drops off. Another factor is that human milk has a much lower concentration of dioxins compared to dairy milk.

But it's a different story for a milk consumer. Over time, the daily consumption of dairy milk produces a dangerous build up of dioxins in the body, causing serious disease, below-par health and premature death.

• There are plenty of studies (too numerous to list here) showing that dairy milk has the highest concentration of dioxins compared to any other staple food product.

'Dioxins penetrate the environment via air, water and soil and are then incorporated in food chains. The major source of human exposure to dioxins (90%) is consumption of .dairy products.' (Professor Rocz Panstw, Zakl Hig, 1999, 50:3).

'The primary source of dioxins is food, especially .dairy products.' (Chemosphere, 1998 Oct, 37:9).

• 'The lipophilic nature of dioxins.may result in relatively high concentrations of dioxin contamination in dairy products.' (Journal of Animal Science, 1998 Jan, 76:1).'Cows' milk is ideal for assessing levels because these compounds adhere to fat and are transferred to and eliminated in the milk of the lactating animal.' (Linda Fitzpatrick, Cork Harbour Alliance for a Safe Environment, 2005).

All types of dairy milk contain dioxins in varying amounts, including organic milk. But over eighty percent of organic milk sold in the world is UHT milk (Long Life milk). In the Americas and most of Europe just about all organic milk is UHT milk.

• You get far more dioxins with UHT milk than you do with regular pasteurized milk because more dioxins gets digested instead of being flushed out of the body. This occurs because the micronized fat globules in UHT milk are much smaller. As a result, significantly more dioxins from organic UHT milk get into the bloodstream. See below to find out more.

Heart Disease Overview

Heart Disease Overview
by Kaleb

Heart disease is known as the ‘widow maker.’ There is some truth to this. Young men do have more heart attacks than younger women. Poor diet and smoking among its chief causes. Fewer men are smoking and their diet has generally improved as treatments for heart disease have advanced.

• Chest or arm pain or discomfort can be a symptom of heart disease and a warning sign of a heart attack. Shortness of breath (feeling like you can’t get enough air), dizziness, nausea (feeling sick to your stomach), abnormal heartbeats, or feeling very tired also are signs. Chest pain or discomfort (angina ) is the most common symptom. You feel this pain when the heart is not getting enough blood or oxygen.

Tests such as blood tests, an ECG and special scans, can help measure the position and extent of the damage. They will be given pain relief, anti-angina medications, oxygen by mask, and drugs to stabilise any abnormal heart rhythms. Test results may not be as reliable. In addition, women often present with milder symptoms like unusual fatigue, shortness of breath and only mild “chest discomfort”, but these symptoms are not to be taken lightly and deserve prompt attention.According to the Cancer Cure Foundation , “Avocados are rich in glutathione, a powerful antioxidant that attacks free radicals in the body by blocking intestinal absorption of certain fats.

**They also supply even more potassium than bananas and are a strong source of beta-carotene. Across the United States, doctors, researchers, and patients like Candy Stauffer are telling the Heart Truth, and they’re saving women’s lives. Start by protecting your own heart, and spread the word to others. Activities like gardening, housework, mowing the lawn are all activities that can help improve your heart health.Cholesterol does not cause heart disease . In fact, many heart attack victims have normal cholesterol levels. Cholesterol in and of itself, is a natural function of the human body.

Every living being requires a certain amount of fat to exist to overall health and maintain body function.Dietary and lifestyle changes will still be necessary to prevent additional cholesterol build-up, however. Diet and heart disease is like a give and take relationship. You give in an unhealthy diet and the heart takes that as a compliment, take away that unhealthy diet and the disease gives you back your heart.
• Cardiologists cannot tackle heart disease alone. CVD is usually the product of multiple interacting risk factors so we need to work with experts from other bodies, in particular in the fields of behavioural medicine and diabetes. Cary Passik, cardiothoracic surgeon advises, “live your life everyday as if you have coronary heart disease.” Remember, an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.

Doctors believe that both eating habits and genetics are responsible for the number of Americans that are at risk for a stroke or heart attack. There are several things that can be done from a practical point of view that may protect against this disease or minimize its severity.Stress is also widely held to be the major cause of heart attack by the survivors of myocardial infarction (heart attack) and their close relatives.

**The directors of Human Resource departments and senior managers are therefore often reluctant to allow coronary heart disease patients to return to work for fear of worsening their condition. Stress alone can cause a heart attack. It also contributes to heart disease by creating inflammation, raising your cholesterol and blood sugar, causing high blood pressure and increasing blood clotting.

Obesity in ferrets shortens ferrets lives just like it does humans. When the weather was milder, we took walks and that helped some. Obesity predisposes individuals to coronary heart disease. Some of the reasons for this are known, but others are not.

10 Tips to Prevent Acne

10 Tips to Prevent Acne

by Jennifer Curran

For better acne skin care, prevention and avoiding aggravation of breakouts should be high on your list. Many people don't realize that certain actions which would appear to help fight acne in fact make the problem worse. Lifestyle and environmental elements such as stress, sleep and exposure to certain foods and substances can go a long way in promoting pimples and zits and oily skin. Below are ten things to watch out for that may be working against you in the fight against acne.

Hydration - Drinking lots of water helps to flush out toxins in the body and the skin and helps to keep the skin moisturized.

Get Plenty of Sleep - When the body sleeps, the body repairs and rejuvenates. This includes the skin. Nighttime and rest provides a consistent environment for the skin and allows the support structures to keep the skin healthy to replenish themselves.

Hands Off - Acne skin care requires that you keep your fingers, which can contain dirt, toxins and other pollutants, off of your face. This can just lead to clogged pores which means more acne. The skin can also be irritated if scratching or removing pimples by pinching takes place.

Limit Caffeine & Nicotine - These things deplete vital nutrients such as vitamin C and vitamin B which are used by the skin to maintain its balance.

Know Your Skin Type - Before you engage in any acne skin care you should know what kind of skin type you have. This will help you avoid using skin care products and other substances that may result in more acne.

Hypoallergenic and Noncomedogenic Only - Finding products that won't cause skin allergies and do not clog pores are essential. Clogged pores are the root cause of acne and using products that fall into this category can go a long way in your prevention efforts.

Reduce Stress - Stress can cause the production of testosterone. This in turn can lead to an oily skin condition and the trapping of skin cells in pores. Acne skin care programs often overlook this valuable aspect.

Be Gentle - It is a common reaction to aggressively scrub and treat acne thinking it will clean the skin better. This is not the case with harsh cleansing. This can irritate and damage the skin as well as remove moisture. This only leads to more oily skin.

Acne Fighting Nutrition - Things like primrose oil, vitamin A, zinc and other vitamins and essential oils have been shown to have positive effects as an acne treatment. Cod liver oil is another good component you can add to a solid acne skin care approach.

Protect Your Skin: Your Body's First Line of Defense

Protect Your Skin: Your Body's First Line of Defense

by Bryan Sullivan

• Looking at your body's largest organ does not require medical imaging - it is visible to those around you at all times . . . it's your skin! The natural effects of chronological aging, along with environmental exposure, damage your skin over time.
What you see in the mirror every day has an impact on how you feel. Odds are that the better your skin looks and feels, the better you feel. While no one can turn back the clock and prevent the normal aging process, there are certainly steps you can take to protect your skin from premature aging, and to keep it looking and feeling healthy.

Preserving Healthy Skin: What You Can Control
When it comes to keeping your skin young, there are factors beyond your control. Normal aging causes biochemical changes in the collagen and elastin levels in our skin. These changes can lead to decreased volume and loss of firmness. Skin sags and wrinkles form; the texture of skin loses some of its softness. No two people's skin ages at the exact same rate.
Chronic or excessive sun exposure causes skin to become damaged much sooner than it would otherwise. Exposure to UV light causes fine and course wrinkles, redness, and can give skin a leathery, rough texture. This process interacts with natural, chronological aging and appears to hasten the aging process, leaving your skin looking older than it actually is. What can you do to prevent this extensive damage?

**When you know your skin will be exposed to the sun, wear an SPF of 15 or higher and wear a hat with a brim. Cover your arms and legs when possible, and limit exposure to the sun during the hours between 10 a.m. and 4.pm. Do not deliberately sunbathe outdoors or at a tanning salon. These measures can benefit your skin even if it already suffers from sun damage. If you smoke cigarettes, quitting will benefit your skin in addition to your overall health and well being. Smoking exacerbates skin damage due to the biochemical changes that it causes.

Natural Health: Take that Extra Step for your Skin through Home Spa Treatments
In addition to limiting sun exposure and avoiding cigarette smoking, your at-home skin care regimen can benefit your skin. There are several types of products available and it can be difficult to sort the best products from the rest. L'Athene is a unique skin care line designed not by skin care/cosmetic experts, but by two nurses with experience treating patients with burns and severe dermatological conditions.

• Nan Brown and Lil Bogdan have used their first-hand knowledge of how skin heals to create an all-natural skin care line free of man-made chemicals. They have consulted other experts, including nutritionists, organic chemists, and aromatherapists in helping to create a product that is both effective and appealing to the senses. Tom Maroney, CEO of Banner Therapy, applauds the emergence of a skin care line designed by health care professionals. "The ingredients in these products have been hand selected by nurses who have been on the front lines of skin care, and who have done their homework in terms of what skin needs, and what it doesn't need."

**The ladies cite growing consumer concern over harsh chemicals that are routinely used in many cosmetic and skin care lines. They saw a need to provide a line of products that contain the best that nature has to offer our skin, and their products contain such skin-nourishing natural ingredients as proteins, fatty acids, vitamins, minerals, fruit acids, healing herbs and essential oils.

Alpha-hydroxy acids have become well known for their beneficial properties; they can help with fine lines, irregular pigmentation, age spots, and can help decrease the appearance of enlarged pores. L'Athene offers several products for the face containing the AHA glycolic acid. The line also includes body treatments and products designed for dry skin, redness and inflammation. There are steps you can take to protect your skin and minimize environmental damage. Treat your skin well, and it will return the favor.

Tips for Preventing Skin Cancer

Tips for Preventing Skin Cancer

by Bertil Hjert

Skin cancer is a dangerous disease. It is important to get it checked as soon as you discover some of the symptoms that indicate skin cancer. However, as the experts have always said, "prevention is better than cure." You should focus on prevention skin cancer from attacking your skin.
Skin plays a vital role in keeping you healthy. It is the largest organ in your body, and it protects you from potential problems caused by such factors as dehydration, the sun, bacterial infections, and pollution. However, there are limits to the skin's ability to provide protection. Various factors can cause damage that cannot be repaired. This is how skin cancer may develop.
Anyone can develop skin cancer. It does not attack any particular age, race or skin type. Certain skin types are more vulnerable to skin cancer as compared to others. People with fair skin, light hair and light eye colour or a large number of moles or freckles are more vulnerable
One of the main causes of skin cancer is exposure to ultraviolet radiation, or UV rays. UV rays are invisible, and are produced by the sun and tanning lamps. Most often, skin cancer is the result of overexposure to the sun.

Here are the main actions to prevent from cancer:

- Tip 1
Make sure that you protect yourself from the harmful ultra-violet rays of sun. Apply a good sunscreen with high SPF or sun protection factor generously before going out in the sun. Re-apply 15 to 30 minutes after sun exposure begins. You should also re-apply sunscreen after vigorous activity that could remove the product, such as swimming, towelling or excessive sweating and rubbing.

- Tip 2
Do not spend a lot of time outdoors. Arrange your time in the sun for morning or afternoon, and avoid high noon. Dress in dark colours and protective clothing. Also wear good quality sunglasses to protect your eyes and surrounding tissues. Select shaded areas for outdoor activities. Always use sunscreen and lip balm.
Limit exposure to reflective surfaces such as snow, water, concrete and sand. Remember that water activities can increases exposure to reflective UV rays.

- Tip 3
Most people are under a notion that a tanning bed can be safe option. A tanning-bed can be more dangerous than exposing your skin to sun´s rays. Better is to use a sunless tanning lotion. It is available in different varieties for different skin types. Remember that a sunless tan lotion will not provide you SPF protection.
The rule is that the best colour for you is the one you were born with. Keep checking your body regularly for any moles lesions or skin irregulation. See your doctor right away if you notice an abnormally dark or discoloured patches or spots, or bleeding, crusting or change in the colour, size, or shape of a mole.

5 Tips to Avoid Pre-Diabetes

5 Tips to Avoid Pre-Diabetes

by H. Bishara

Time and time again, the American public is inundated with news clips and commentaries about how we are the most overweight country in the world. And while experts chat on daily talk shows about the latest fad diet or quick fix exercise plan, fast food joints encourage us to come in and try the newest-biggest-baddest-burger that they’ve just concocted.
Sadly, the topic that might encourage people to really think about their weight as a real health issue, and make changes in their daily lives is often not mentioned at all: pre-diabetes.
Pre-diabetes is a nutritional disorder that affects over 100 million people in the US. Some of the outward signs of pre-diabetes can be an extra layer of fat around the waist, insulin resistance, craving sweets or starchy foods, and/or feeling tired or mentally in a fog. What people can’t see is the damage that this disease is doing on the inside where, without treatment, there is great risk of developing heart disease, hypertension, high cholesterol and, of course, Type 2 diabetes. Although pre-diabetes can lead to serious health conditions, it can be reversed!

Here are five tips to avoid pre-diabetes:
1. See a doctor.
Meeting with your doctor and having a simple glucose test, to confirm if you have pre-diabetes, is the essential first step towards dealing with this disease. By seeing your doctor, you are providing him or her with a baseline of your health as it stands today so that, going forward, your doctor can work with you to monitor any pre-diabetes symptoms. He or she can also be a valuable resource towards giving you recommendations to see other specialists or support programs such as Insulite Laboratories which helps people with pre-diabetes develop a comprehensive plan to battle the disease.

2. Develop a smart eating plan.
We all know that some foods are better than others. But when dealing with a health concern such as pre-diabetes, evaluating and thinking about what we put into our bodies becomes essential to our overall health. That’s why sitting down to develop a healthy eating plan and really evaluating food choices will help you adopt lifelong, healthy eating habits. Obvious good food choices that have proven to reverse pre-diabetes include low-fat proteins such as chicken and fish as well as fruits and vegetables such as assorted greens, spinach, tomatoes, onions, peppers, apples, cherries, broccoli and blueberries. Other not so obvious good food choices include organic foods, low-glycemic foods such as lentils, chickpeas and yogurt and foods with essential fatty acids such as fish oil GLA, CLA and flaxseed oil. Foods that you should avoid when diagnosed with pre-diabetes include high-glycemic foods that break down quickly in the bloodstream like white bread, bagels, white potatoes and corn.

3. Add exercise to your daily routine.
Because weight is a key indicator for people with pre-diabetes, exercise is another essential component when developing a healthy lifestyle plan. By building movement into your daily routine, you build muscle and burn blood sugar and fat which will help you lose weight. Obviously the more you exercise the better off you will be, but starting with small changes such as walking around your neighborhood 2-3 times a week will help you start to make physical changes in a way that you can maintain and build on as your stamina improves.

4. Don’t forget your nutraceuticals.
While eating more healthily will definitely improve your prognosis, adding supplements to your daily routine can help you go the extra mile towards battling and reversing pre-diabetes. Also called nutraceuticals, these disease-specific vitamins, herbs and minerals give you that added boost to keep you healthy and ward off more serious health issues caused by pre-diabetes. Some that are recommended for people with pre-diabetes include alpha lipoic acid, chromium, vitamin A, vitamin C, vitamin D, vitamin E, magnesium and/or biotin. However, before taking any of these nutraceuticals, you should talk to your doctor to make sure that they will work well with your overall health, eating and exercise plan.

5. Improve your personal environment.
Many people experience weight gain due to situations occurring in their own personal living environments, so by making small changes in your personal space you can make a big difference in your overall health. For example, are you getting enough sleep? If not, you may not be helping your metabolic system lose that extra weight. Also, are you stressed? If so, you need to think about making changes that will limit the stress in your life so that the chemicals in your body that replenish energy and make you hungry can subsist. Additionally, you should look around at your physical environment. New studies show that toxins from pesticides, food, cosmetic preservatives and some pharmaceutical drugs may be linked to obesity and insulin resistance. Avoiding such toxins can only increase your chances of successfully reversing pre-diabetes.
